First Tournament - June 2, 2007

The first Comic Making Tournament (CMT) was held June 2, 2007 at the New Haven Public Library. There were five events with several children participating.

Intro and Judges

There were two judges for the event: Bret and Lydia, both library volunteers. They both did an excellent job and really helped the tournament succeed.

Second Tournament - March 8, 2008

The second tournament was held March 8, 2008, at the New Haven Public Library. There were seven events with over a dozen children participating. Counting parents and family members, the tournament had attendance of 30-40 people easily.

Templates

As part of the preparation for the tournament, I assembled all the new templates I'd been making for several months. These are pictures of most of them so you can get an idea of the variety of comics used.

Prizes

This is some of the swag used as prizes for the second tournament. Among the notable items: Amulet by Kazu Kibuishi and Jellaby by Kean Soo, two of the comic creators who support the CCP. Merchandise from Girl Genius, And Shine Heaven Now, Strange Candy, and Planet Karen was also given away.

Judges

Bret returned to judge again. Since there were more people, it was more difficult for him this time around. However, he still pulled through. If there are more people for the third tournament, I'll try to get another judge to back him up.

Hybrid

A new event for CMT 2. There was only a short form version here, but I may create a long form version in the next tournament.

Non-Linear

Of the new events, this was the most popular. I will definitely be expanding it in the future.

Infinity

While the game itself was popular with the kids, it's not well suited to a tournament format, so it won't be used again like this.

Award Ceremony

I asked Bret to take these, as I'd forgotten to take pictures of the award ceremony from the first tournament.
